In 1977, he opened Pizza Time Theatre, which entertained families with video games and animated robot characters while they waited for their pizza. By 1982, there were 200 restaurants in the chain. During the 1980s, Bushnell changed his focus to venture capitalism—finding promising startup companies and giving them money in return for a stake in the ownership. Brooks also worked with Sun Ho Kim, a crystallographer from Duke University, to create models of molecular structure.
